Unusually Long Backlog for Visa Appointments at US Consulates in India

If you are planning to travel this summer and apply for a nonimmigrant visa (such as the H-1B, L-1, H4 or L-2) at the US Consulate in India, be sure to plan ahead.  US consular posts in India are experiencing  an unusually long backlog for scheduling appointments and issuing non-immigrant visas which is likely to worsen during the summer months.  Currently, wait times for temporary work visas are: Chennai – 75 days; Hyderabad – 93 days; Kolkata – 96 days; Mumbai – 88 days; New Delhi – 100 days.  The Department of State is seeking approval from the Government of India to add consular positions to alleviate the increased visa wait times.
