Not surprisingly, the USCIS received sufficient H-1B petitions in the first 5 days of April to require a lottery. Specifically, USCIS received 201,011 H-1B cap cases including both master’s cap and regular cap cases. It has completed the lottery for all cap-subject cases and will be sending receipts for those selected in the near future. A few of our clients who have expedited their cases under premium processing have received e-mail notifications that their case was selected already. We expect more to be coming in the next few weeks. We will be sure to let you know individually as soon as we learn whether your case was selected in the lottery. The USCIS has also announced that after completing the standard H-1B election process which included individuals with advanced degrees, it has over 20,000 cases qualifying under the advanced degree exemption and will proceed to conduct a master’s cap lottery for those cases.
